Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about him enjoying an exclusive and discretionary perk from Qantas during
a tense exchange with a journalist live on radio.

The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge, an invitation-only set
of catered waiting areas and services handed out
by the airline in what has been called ‘Australia’s most exclusive club’.

Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve Cannane that he was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a
company that has illegally sacked hundreds of workers’.

Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about what they think about that.’

Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that Qantas illegally sacked 1,700 workers
at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case brought by Transport Workers Union. 

Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it a
‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a Facebook post.
‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think
you should be a little purer on this and just not take
their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’

Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such as this
and argued that the party’s policies to tax big corporations
heavily show the perks were not impacting the Greens.

He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international one he
is alleged to have received from Qantas in new book The
Chairman’s Lounge authored by former Australian Financial Review columnist
Joe Aston.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they are battling to hold onto
their two seats after stating they aimed to triple their
representation in parliament.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear
to have retained the Brisbane seat of Maiwar but
suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.

However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing to Labor with 64 per
cent of votes counted.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the
end of the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC
and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge past
successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months before
production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio
but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With
all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros. movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and
Discovery merged in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would
make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which
would have cost around 20 per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about
genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay
attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’;
director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix at the LA premiere
September 30

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.
And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay
attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going
to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at
the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back – with a
Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported the decision to
bring the film to Venice. 

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared
in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan.

The grisly film – made for about $2 million – stars Thornton as homicidal

The star said he had yet to see the panned Joker sequel, saying: ‘I was
shocked too as the first Joker film I loved, I’m curious to see

Terrifier 3, written and directed by Damien Leone, is an un-rated blood fest, which has received a 78-percent rating from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.  Audiences have ‘certified’ it ‘hot’ and given it
a healthy 90-percent on the popcornmeter.

The film earned $18.3 million at the box office according to The Numbers.   

Landing in third place was Joker: Folie à Deux. After winning the box office competition during its debut
weekend could not overcome the bad reviews,
enduring an 82-percent decline in ticket sales.

The movie collected only $7.055 million, in spite of being in more than four thousand theaters across the US.

The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film and about $100
million on marketing and distribution, according to the report.

It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office
to break even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros.
sources claim the number is $375 million.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates suggested by anonymous “insiders” or “rival executives”
are grossly wrong and continues a trend where rumor is reported as fact.’

‘The film continues to play in theatrical release, included with this week’s opening in China, and will continue to earn revenue
throughout its home viewing and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after two weeks
of release.

In comparison, the first Joker grossed $96.2 million domestically and $248.4 million globally after three days of release.

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days
after a chaotic election, set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred by technical problems.

Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was
marked by long delays and labelled a “sham” by
the opposition.

Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet
for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party,
in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.

Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used to register voters and
shortages of ballot papers.

In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out
of batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas with
voters still in the queues, it said.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the vote for a second
time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday,
including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by assured technical precision. Duck à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked rare, the skin crisp, the sauce
just the right side of bitter. It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage spiked with shards
of smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb, four vast just-pink slices, drenched in the stickiest,
most gloriously intense of gravies; by its side, a tiny shepherd’s
pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.

Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully
sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of the Lake District is famed for its damsons); along with a banana soufflé, this time the classic version but ethereal, served with vanilla ice
cream and a pot of sticky-toffee sauce to pour deep into its molten centre.
This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately done,
in the sort of pub designed for lingering. It’s getting late now, and we’ve an early start.
But first, another bottle of wine. Dinners like this are too rare to be rushed.

Smith pleaded not guilty and was released on a $10 million bond put up

Someone on X, formerly Twitter, posted the moment online last week and it went viral, gaining more then 437,000 views in a matter of
days – and many users took their initial silence
as proof that they ‘didn’t like’ the film.

The internet has been flooded with negative posts about the flick ever since it premiered, with
one user branding it as a ‘bore’ and another claiming it
had ‘no plot.’

Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final scene, which saw main character Arthur Fleck (portrayed by Joaquin) brutally stabbed to death by a fellow inmate.

This meant that the man that audiences had been watching
over the course of the two movies was never the Joker at all, but in fact,
the infamous villain from the Batman series was really just the random inmate who killed Arthur
in the last moments of the film.

The shocking twist left numerous viewers unsatisfied, and they took to social media to share their frustration.

While chatting with Good Morning Britain last
week, the two stars were asked if the movie turned out to be ‘everything they

simply titled Joker. 

The first film grossed over $1 billion and at the time was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all
time. It received 11 Oscar nominations – two
of which it won. 

The sequel, however, has already been much less successful.
It had a lackluster $40 million debut at the box office in its first weekend, and has a low rating of 33
percent and 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Undoing much of the goodwill from its predecessor, the sequel convolutes

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral
commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians
until Saturday evening to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked
to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:
30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote
as he had exams the next day.

‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas
employee,’ the Prime Minister said. 

But before the book even gets to the contents page there is a photo
of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications
senior adviser.

And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird,
who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook before Scott Morrison. 

‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of the first
page of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book launch. 

Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made. 

‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times with public figures and leaders who struggle to see
their own part in it, the terrible circumstances
that they create,’ he said.

Asked if Mr Albanese had been poorly advised
in his attack, Aston, who is a former Australian Financial Review columnist, wonders if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to advice at this point’.

‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue and he’s blaming me and he’s blaming
other MP’s for also taking upgrades (on Qantas flights).

‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk about, which is, did you ask Qantas
for confirmed upgrades on your private holidays when you were the Transport Minister?
The answer is “yes” and he’s desperately trying
to avoid saying it.’

Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime Minister should refer himself to the
anti-corruption commission over the flight upgrades.

Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many people are
struggling to pay their mortgage or rent, the latest
blow to his credibility has led to calls for him to resign.

Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though. 

‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to get
this far. I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

‘So to the extent that it has, I would say … anyone who reads the book will learn that this
book is not a hit job on Anthony Albanese.
This book is about Qantas. 

‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both sides of the
aisle, Labor, Liberal, National, you name it. They’ve been doing it for more than a generation.

‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia.

I’m not here trying to get a scalp. That’s not what this book is
about and it never was.’

But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with Aston mirrors the conversations being had across Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese. 

‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public
is with the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he said.

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour
is quite normalised to him, is what I’ve seen. 

‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at the front row
of the Australian Open Tennis. 

‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost every year for 12 years and he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).

‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front
row of the International Grand Slam. He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.

‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just
another example of that.’

In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be
booked in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if their
flight can be upgraded. 

The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had a very
direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.

‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed.
You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat
and the only person at Qantas who can issue those types of upgrades is
the CEO. No other executive can do that.

‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these
upgrades (for Anthony Albanese).’

Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during his
time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for politicians
to get up there. 

‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature
too. Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane,
it’s very hard to go back.

‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly in business, but they don’t
get paid like CEOs …

‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane on personal travel. 

‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events. 

Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books and magazines.

Members may bring in two guests at a time. 

Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is ready to board, and your personal preferences are logged for each flight. 

Membership also entitles you to first-class facilities at Qantas partner airlines.

Aussie actor Russell Crowe has always worn his heart on his sleeve – sometimes to
his detriment – but he has vowed to reel it in when watching his beloved Souths play NRL matches from now on.

Crowe became a co-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2006, alongside
businessman Peter Holmes à Court, with the aim of revitalising the NRL club that was
struggling at the time.

Under his leadership, the Rabbitohs achieved financial stability and secured a premiership victory in 2014, ending a 43-year drought. 

Crowe was instrumental in recruiting star players like Sam Burgess
and Greg Inglis to the team, which significantly improved
their performance. 

He has often been seen passionately supporting the Rabbitohs
at games, with media capturing moments of his animated reactions during key matches. 

However the Gladiator star has vowed to show more of
a poker face at future games for one big reason.

‘A long time ago when I’d be going to Rabbitohs games when my kids were little and stuff, and
I realised that by showing my passion in the grandstands was potentially giving the media outlets a way of mentally affecting the team. 

‘There was all these photos of me strangling the imaginary referee.

‘So, I thought, ‘I’m gonna stop doing that’.
I’d go to a game and see what happens then I’d go backstage and you can swear. 

‘But when I’m watching the game, I try and keep my cool…because you know I think about it from the players’ perspective.

They don’t want to see the boss looking like he’s pissed off in the Monday newspaper.
So you’ve got to be cool about it.’ 

Souths fans – including Crowe – endured a torrid 2024 season, finishing 16th with a 7-17 record. 

Injuries and suspensions played their part but defensive frailties were the biggest issue,
with the Rabbitohs conceding an average of 28.4 points per
game – their worst since 2006.

Jason Demetriou and re-instating former mentor Wayne Bennett

Souths fans will be hoping to see a fit and firing Latrell
Mitchell back on the park next season

Injuries compounded their struggles, with key players like Campbell Graham missing the entire
season and Latrell Mitchell limited to 11 appearances.

The season’s disappointments led to the dismissal of coach
Jason Demetriou, with Wayne Bennett set to return as head
coach in 2025.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Rabbitohs have bolstered their roster by signing English halfback Lewis Dodd,
Euan Aitken and Josh Schuster.

The 2025 season kicks off with a match against Bennett’s former club the Dolphins.
